Melanie from PlanForAwesome.com is visiting today with one of her favorite things: mini containers from the dollar store! This is proof that it doesn’t have to take a lot of money to get a little more organized.
Okay, today’s favorite thing doesn’t have a link, because it comes from the Dollar Store. I did find something that looks like it’s the same thing on Amazon, but they’re a lot more than $1! So if you’re in a pinch, you can get them on Amazon, but I wouldn’t recommend it, because these look like the same exact ones I got for a buck! If you’re going to spend the amount that these sell for on Amazon, you might as well get nicer ones. The reason these are one of my favorite things is due to the price! But here is a link if you don’t have a Dollar Store around you and you need them fast.
I use these little containers for so many things!
My favorite use for them is packing candy for road trips.
It’s just enough space to give your kids a small treat, but not have them get sick. It also saves a TON OF MONEY if you have previously allowed them to pick out treats at a gas station every time you stop. As tempting as that is, those candy purchases add up, and make road tripping expensive! They also decrease the chances of needing a barf bag, because your kids aren’t constantly getting their own bag of candy every time you stop for gas or a potty break.
These allow you to give your kids a treat at each pit stop, without breaking the bank, and without making them sick. You can buy the candy in the bulk section at Winco for SUPER CHEAP and then separate it out into these little containers, and BAM. You’ve got portioned road trip treats.
We are leaving for a road trip in a few days, and this is the first step I take to getting ready. I can’t pack clothes yet, but I can pack treats! This bin also came from the Dollar Store. LOVE THESE THINGS! It’s the perfect size for a treat bin for a road trip.
Okay, so here is my list of ways I have used these little containers in my life. And at 10/$1, you don’t have to feel guilty about throwing them away, or them getting lost!
7 Ways to Use These Mini Containers with Lids
- Road trip treats, of course
- Little snacks for school lunches (raisins, craisins, some granola to put in yogurt, dressing to put on a salad that’s packed for lunch, etc)
- Little mismatched screws, nails, etc – great for a junk drawer
- Pills for a vacation
- Pony tails/bobby pins for a vacation
- Little treasures
- Change! I have this in my car for emergencies. There is actually a $20 bill folded up at the bottom.
The possibilities are endless!
Thanks, Melanie, for your ideas! I love using tiny containers for USB storage devices, and miscellaneous spices and cooking items (like cinnamon sticks!).
