The BEST Way to Pack Hair Things When Traveling With Kids

Are you itching to travel? Our guest writer, Melanie, is the queen of preparedness. She shares her ideas for emergency prep for busy moms at PlanforAwesome.com. As for today, Melanie has an awesome travel hack to share. Take that can even work as an every day hair thing hack. Take it away, Melanie!

Being the organization junkie that I am, I get excited when I see anything clear with a lid.

True story.

This little guy is a game changer.  Especially when traveling.

I will admit…it’s a little large.  That’s why I love it.  And that’s also why I hate it.

I love its size because it ACTUALLY fits NORMAL-SIZED stuff.  While travel-sized things are totally adorable, some of them just aren’t practical.  Like brushes.  Since when did anyone ever make a travel-sized hairbrush that actually works?

This thing fits:

  • A REAL brush – My girls insist on having a “no hurt brush” (a Wet brush…I called it that ONCE when I was trying to talk my then 4-year-old into letting me brush her hair, and the name stuck).
  • A REAL can of hairspray
  • Ponytails
  • Bobby-pins
  • Jewelry
  • Other Stuff

The little compartments are removable/changeable also, so that’s awesome.

Even better than the way just looking at this organized sight makes my heart leap with joy, is the actual FUNCTIONALITY of it.  I used to pack everything in Ziploc bags.  And I still use Ziplocs like crazy while traveling.  But it was SO ANNOYING to have to reach into 5 different Ziplocs to get a brush, a ponytail, bobby pins, and hairspray.

Now it’s all in one easy-to-grab container.

I can just tell my girls to “Go get the hair box,” and I know they will bring me everything we will need.

The lid locks down nice and tight with two snaps to hold everything in place.

The ONLY downside to this really, is that it is large if you are trying to save on space.  However, 9 times out of 10, I will sacrifice space for organization, so I’m not a tough sale on something like this.

One thing I will say is, its shape makes it real easy to put at the bottom of a suitcase, and hardly notice that it’s there…

So there you have it.  My favorite way to organize my girls’ hair stuff while traveling.
